Woman's Christian Temperance Union petition and invitation, 1888.

This collection contains a petition for incorporation for the Woman's Christian Temperance Union of Savannah and an invitation to the corner stone laying of the Woman's Christian Temperance Union building in 1888. These materials were taken from the corner stone of the Union Mission building at 415 W. Liberty Street when the building was razed and were laminated at some point prior to their donation.

Temperance organization founded in Cleveland, Ohio in 1874. Campaigning against the use of alcohol and in favor of labor laws and prison reform, the W.C.T.U. became one of the largest and most influential women's organizations of the 19th century. It became global when the World W.C.T.U. was founded in 1883.
